In order to measure and record potentials and currents in the human body, it is necessary to provide interface that connects the body and the electronic measuring apparutes. Biopotential electrodes carry out this interface function, and must therefore have the capability of conducting the current across the interface between the body and the electronic measuring circuit.

A Silver/Silver Chloride electrode is a highly practical electrode that is close to a perfectly nonpolarizable electrode. A Silver Chloride surface is made from a Silver electrode by an electrolytic process.
